PRACTICE PHILOSOPHY:
I believe in working with all appropriate aspects of the lives of my clients -- physical, cognitive, emotional, interpersonal, spiritual and cultural. This often, but not always, includes exploration of childhood experiences. The specific needs and desires of each client dictate the emphasis of the treatment. I integrate techniques from a variety of treatment modalities, always in a supportive environment. In general, I like to work on several different levels to help facilitate:
- Healing of wounds from the past
- Achievement of greater understanding of self (and partner)
- Deepening of relationship intimacy
- Acquisition of more functional coping skills
- Diminution of negative symptoms and behavior patterns
- Development of a more balanced and joyful life
Homework Assignments are common, to help support and enhance work done during therapy sessions. My joy is in seeing my clients become the people they want to be and have the relationships they have dreamed of having.
PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND:
I have masters degrees from Harvard University, Graduate School of Education and the University of Denver, Graduate School of Social Work. My early clinical training took place at the VA Mental Health Clinic (Denver) after a stint at the Gathering Place, and was followed by 3 years at Arapahoe House in several substance abuse treatment settings. In January, 1995, I joined this counseling center. I am a PREP, Prevention & Relationship Enhancement Program, Trainer, have practiced EMDR since 1996, and have taken many courses and experienced many trainings over the last 17 years in all of my areas of clinical expertise.
