PRACTICE PHILOSOPHY:
A lot of my practice is with survivors of trauma (both physical and psychological). People often see no need to “dig up” past memories. Yet, trauma therapy can free a survivor to live fully in the present rather than to be controlled by past events. Prior traumas often dictate what we do and don’t do, where we do it, and how we feel about it by prompting denial or avoidance on our part. Trauma therapy should provide support and education, as well as allow the survivor to come to terms with the past while learning to live in the present as a wholly functional being.
Neuropsychological and psychological evaluation often offers a client an assessment of their strengths so that recommendations can be made and new tools learned to help cope with the cognitive and emotional consequences of injury and traumatic life experience.
