PRACTICE PHILOSOPHY
As a pastor and counselor, I believe in the unique worth of every person and in their possibilities for growth and change; both through their own empowerment and the hope that comes from whatever they believe in that gives them strength. For me, hearing the stories each individual brings with them is a distinct honor and I do my best to respect the places we all come from while holding those narratives in tension with the places we want to go.
My therapeutic practice grows out of the stories we share during our time together and the goals we develop in cooperation with one another. I believe in the possibilities you bring with you and that with clarity, motivation, hope and some hard-work those goals can be reached or redefined as needed when new realities open up in your life.
PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
I am an ordained minister of Word and Sacrament in the Presbyterian Church (USA) with a Masters of Divinity from Union-PSCE in Richmond, Virginia. I also hold a Masters in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University and am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)in the states of Virginia and Colorado.
I have worked in various capacities from youth director to pastoral assistant in four congregations. Almost all of my training was with a pastoral counseling center in Richmond, Virginia before moving to Denver to begin a doctoral program. I am currently a PhD candidate at The Iliff School of Theology and University of Denver with a concentration on Religion and Psychological Studies. Thus, I spend much of my time outside the office working on my dissertation in the field of Pastoral Theology.
