PRACTICE PHILOSOPHY:
Healthy families and children have always been an important focus of my work. Prior to coming to CENTUS, I worked in the Families Together Program at Jefferson Center for Mental Health. I utilize a number of approaches to help children and families communicate, heal and develop. I am comfortable with various therapies, as apropriate, including family systems, cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic and art, play and sandtray, which I find particularly useful in working with children.
Moving through life transitions is often a focus in my work with adult clients. I have found that establishing a warm supportive relationship is a key to success in helping clients to face issues and move on.
PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND:
As a licensed psychologist, I gained considerable experience performing Psychological Evaluations of children at Children's Hospital, which taught me the importance of correctly identifying both problems and strengths. A thorough evaluation is an important tool for adults in understanding a child and providing the most efficacious treatment.
The Parent Consultation Package offered by Dr. Shamos

Dr. Shamos has worked extensively with parents on issues concerning their children and parenting. She has discovered that often families do not need extensive, expensive therapy. They want a professional assessment of their own situation and some guidance on how to handle it.
The Parent Consultation Package Includes:
- One hour interview with both parents
- One hour observation and interview with your child
- One hour session to review recommendations
- One hour follow-up session to review progress
- Three 15 minute phone sessions
- A written report on findings and recommendations
The total value of these services is $593.75.
The Parenting Consultation Package costs $300.
