Counseling services at CENTUS are available to children, adults, couples, and families from throughout the metro Denver area, including Evergreen, Boulder, Brighton, Westminster, and Longmont.
- How does a person become a client?
Anyone may call the CENTUS administrative office at 303-639-5240 to be connected with a counselor, who will schedule your appointment.
- Does someone have to be referred to CENTUS Counseling, Consulting and Education by another professional?
Although many people who come to CENTUS are referred by clergy, physicians, or other professionals, such a referral is not necessary. Just call CENTUS directly to make an appointment.
- How does CENTUS know which counselor someone should see?
Counselors are assigned based on several factors: some counselors specialize in working with children, families, or particular problems; sometimes office location is an important factor or access to health insurance; schedule availability may also be a determinant.
- Can clients choose their counselor?
If someone has a particular desire to see a certain therapist, that preference can usually be honored.
- What does counseling cost?
The full fee for counseling services is $125 per session. A subsidized fee scale based on income or personal circumstances is available. Adjustments may also be made utilizing CENTUS' assistance funding for those who qualify.
- Does CENTUS accept health insurance?
Health insurance is applicable in many cases. CENTUS Counseling, Consulting and Education will file for payment directly from the company, if the client wishes, or if that is a requirement by the company. Sometimes insurance imposes limitations about which therapist can be seen or how many sessions are allowed.
- Which insurance companies does CENTUS Counseling, Consulting and Education utilize?
CENTUS Counseling, Consulting and Education's therapists have contracted with numerous health insurance companies, which are too numerous to name. A limited list can be found below. It is highly recommended that you check with your insurance company to find out:
- if you are covered for counseling services
- if CENTUS Counseling, Consulting and Education or the individual therapist is listed as a provider
- the extent of your coverage, and
- your financial responsibility when utilizing that coverage

- What if the client doesn't have insurance?
If the client cannot afford to pay full fee, the fee can be lowered according to the adjusted fee guidelines and using the CENTUS' Counseling Assistance Funds.
- What is faith-based?
CENTUS Counseling, Consulting and Education is rooted in communities of faith as its source of primary support and identity. CENTUS serves the whole community and has always understood itself to be interfaith in identity and service.
- Does religion have to be incorporated into counseling?
If clients have a religious faith, then that resource is ordinarily incorporated into the counseling process. CENTUS Counseling, Consulting and Education regularly works with people of Christian, Jewish, Buddhist and other faiths. CENTUS also works respectfully with people who have no religious faith. Religion is not imposed on any of CENTUS' clients but is drawn upon as a resource when appropriate.
- How does CENTUS Counseling, Consulting and Education incorporate spirituality and religious values into sessions?
CENTUS Counseling, Consulting and Education is shaped and guided by religious values and teachings. We respect the individual beliefs of persons who come for counseling and never impose our own beliefs on others. We affirm the creative and healing power of the spiritual realm of life and actively seek ways of integrating that perspective and resource into the counseling process.
- Can couples receive premarital counseling at CENTUS Counseling, Consulting and Education?
CENTUS Counseling, Consulting and Education often provides premarital counseling for couples who wish to start their marriages on the best possible footing. Sometimes this counseling is provided as part of wedding planning in their local congregation.
- Does CENTUS Counseling, Consulting and Education keep marriages together?
CENTUS Counseling, Consulting and Education affirms the importance of keeping commitments and the value of family stability for children and adults. Most couples who come to CENTUS seeking to preserve their marriage are helped to reconcile that relationship. We respect each couple's decision-making process and work with couples to foster greater harmony and respect and whatever decisions they may make about their life together.
- Does CENTUS Counseling, Consulting and Education work with children and adolescents?
We offer individual counseling for adolescents and children as young as three. Work with parents, especially for younger children, is an essential part of the treatment. Family therapy is also available when appropriate.
- How do donations help CENTUS' work?
A little more than one-third of the CENTUS Counseling, Consulting and Education budget comes from donations from churches, businesses, individuals, foundations, and fund-raising events. Contributions go directly to help CENTUS provide services to people who otherwise would not be able to afford needed counseling services. CENTUS maintains a Counseling Assistance Fund that helps underwrite counseling fees for people and families in need.
- What is the Silent Samaritan luncheon?
The Silent Samaritans are women (and a few men) who gather once each year to raise funds to help support CENTUS Counseling, Consulting and Education's work with women. This "women in strength helping women in need" program helps CENTUS provide discounted services to the 60% of our clients who are women and their families, but who have limited financial means.
- Are client records confidential?
Counseling is held in strict confidence within the limits of Colorado law. Disclosure to other professionals is made only with the client's written permission or when required by state law.
- Where are CENTUS Counseling, Consulting and Education's offices?
CENTUS Counseling, Consulting and Education has eleven office locations around the metro Denver area including Boulder, Brighton, Evergreen, Westminster, and Longmont. Our main office is at 1385 S. Colorado Blvd., Suite A-210, between E. Florida and E. Louisianna Avenues. Satellite offices are located in Denver (3), Aurora, Littleton, Lakewood, Evergreen, Brighton, Boulder, Westminster, and Longmont.
- What credentials do the counselors have?
CENTUS Counseling, Consulting and Education's professional staff is licensed by the state of Colorado. Many of the clinical staff hold further professional accreditation in their respective disciplines. The Center does provide some training opportunities for professionals who are completing their education, and these interns do provide services to some clients under close supervision.

- Do counselors receive continuing education?
All of our therapists participate in many hours of continuing education each year to maintain their licenses. CENTUS Counseling, Consulting and Education's staff also regularly brings in consultants and in-service experiences to improve their clinical skills.
- What kinds of educational services does CENTUS Counseling, Consulting and Education provide?
CENTUS Counseling, Consulting and Education offers a wide variety of psycho-educational services in the community, including classes on parenting, blended families, managing stress, critical incident debriefing, and the like. Classes can be arranged in congregational or business settings by calling CENTUS at 303-639-5240.
- How long does counseling take?
Sometimes things can be resolved in just a few sessions. More often it takes longer to effect lasting change. Counseling sessions ordinarily last 45-50 minutes and are usually held once a week. The average number of sessions people are seen at CENTUS is 12, but this number is not particularly meaningful because the needs of clients vary so widely.
CENTUS Counseling,Consulting and Education provides a variety of professional services to children, adults, couples, families, and groups. These services include:
- individual counseling and psychotherapy
- couple and family counseling
- pre-marriage counseling
- professional education (counselors, clergy in seminars, clinical supervision, internships)
- community education (topics like parenting, grief, marriage enrichment, communication skills, managing stress
- consulting with schools, businesses, congregations, work groups (including organizational conflict, team building, critical incident debriefing)
- psychological testing and assessment, including neuropsychological and child psychological
- How do we know that CENTUS Counseling, Consulting and Education is reputable or credible?
CENTUS Counseling, Consulting and Education is nationally accredited and undergoes a rigorous outside review of its clinical and business operations every four years in order to maintain this accreditation. An outside audit of finances is performed every year. The CENTUS Board carefully oversees the operations and sets policies to ensure high integrity.

CENTUS Counseling, Consulting and Education publishes a monthly feature article, a newsletter, and an annual financial report. Information about our annual events: Silent Samaritan Luncheon - Women of Strength Helping Women In Need, Feeding the Soul conference, and Benchmark auction is featured on our website in advance of the event.
