Unlocking Healthy Relationships with IMAGO Therapy
Imago Relationship Therapy (IRT) is a creative approach to developing healthy relationships. It is designed to help conflict within relationships become opportunities for healing and growth. The approach is also designed to help good relationships gain new tools and perspectives on further developing the depth of the connection between partners. The term “imago” is Latin for “image,” and within the context of IRT, it refers to our individual “emotional blueprint” or our “unconscious image of familiar love.”
The concept of Imago as an image or emotional blueprint of familiar love suggests that your early relationships teach you about love and about yourself. Through these early experiences, you develop a sense of an identity related to love, such as what love is and what you need to do in order to experience love from others and feel safe.
Psycho-Educational Intensives
Imago Psycho-Educational Intensives are generally held for 3 hours once per month for an initial 3-month commitment. These intensive sessions with one or more couples/partners include orientation to Imago theory, training in the use of practical communication tools, journaling exercises, and provide a road map for creating conscious intimacy, and making the connection with your partner the safest, most sacred place in each other’s world. The participants then work with their partners throughout the month to apply the tools and knowledge gained in each session.
Your IMAGO Provider
Paul A. Bretz, D.Min., LCSW, MHSA, Certified Imago Relationship Therapist, Certified Imago Workshop Presenter.
Dr. Bretz has served in behavioral healthcare for over 30 years. Imago Theory posits that we are born fully alive, with relaxed joyfulness and pulsating energy. Doing the “work” of Imago allows us to reclaim this birthright. It asserts that we are hard wired for healing, and each of us seeks relationships to finish the unfinished business of childhood in which we had both met and unmet needs. The goal of Imago is to promote increased conscious awareness, healing, learning, and growth resulting in safe and sacred connections.
